Jonathan Stern was born and raised in Eastchester, New York. The artist stretched his first canvas when he was in high school and has been painting ever since. He is a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University with a Master's Degree in Architecture.
Stern's paintings and his architectural practice are complementary. Each discipline simultaneously challenges and embraces the other. This artist's painted imagery serves as an exploration of the experience of light and space in built environments. Drawn to monumental perspectives that remind him of the drive and capability of human creation, he pursues the emotional connection between people and the spaces they move through.
Says the Artist/Architect: “My fascination with architecture and complex interiors finds a creative outlet in my paintings. All architecture is rooted in classical fundamentals; I examine the work of early architects by painting their work. Whether I am rendering the ornamentation on a Corinthian column or an ancient sculpture, I am following the paths of those who have gone before, expressing the rhythm of classical form, color, and proportion, and sharing my exaltation of these with the viewer.”
